Alex Elford

Alex has danced with Strictly Stage since the age of 5 and has taught and assisted since the age of 12. He prides himself in his extensive experience in a number of styles that he has been able to pursue, with training in: Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Street, Contemporary, Lyrical and even a bit of Ballroom. He uses his training in the numerous classes he has taught and assisted at over the years, to give the next generation of performers the same opportunities that he has had.

Alex furthered his knowledge of Dance at the Arts University Bournemouth where he studied Contemporary, fusing styles such as Cunningham, Graham, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, Salsa and Hip-Hop.

Alex found a passion for creating music videos during his time at University, where he created a YouTube channel to showcase his creativity. Although his channel has taken a back seat, he continues to choreograph for Strictly Stage and look for inspiration across media. When Alex is not dancing, he is a part-time carer, giving him more skills under his belt that he hopes can be incorporated within Strictly Stage one day. Alex’s time in the industry has allowed for many collaborations with other arts-based and sport related courses, however, he has also worked in collaboration with Pavilion Dance South West to put on ‘Surf the Wave’, one of the UK’s largest dance showcases.

A few notable companies that he has worked with include Ballet Boyz, Joan Cleville Dance and Lila Dance. He has also assisted in a“male”only workshop with the sole aim of engaging more males into the world of Dance. In addition to collaborating, he has also performed in Strictly Stage’s annual shows at the prestigious Lighthouse Theatre Poole, ‘Cinderella’ at the Tivoli Theatre, Pop 4 Diabetes does ‘Dirty Dancing’, Pop 4 Diabetes does ‘Grease’, ‘That Happy Place’ and ‘Springboard’ at Pavilion Dance South West and ‘A Day of Dance’ 2018/19 at Arts University Bournemouth.

Alex graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2020 with a First Class Honors Degree in Contemporary Dance. He continues to teach at mid-week school classes, after school classes and weekend classes, where he passes on his knowledge of performing to the next generation of Strictly Stage students as well as being a part of the Admin Team.

Alex looks forward to our annual performances at The Lighthouse Theatre, seeing all of our students’ hard work coming together. He hopes that his passion for the industry can inspire the next generation.
